Our Story

Hopeful for a better future, and with much of his celebrated honesty, the late mayor of Nazareth, Tawfiq Zayyad, told me: “Katy, today we’re working on restructuring the town, and I’ve been closely following your work and choir’s work for a long time at school. I hope the day will come when this town could boast of a choir that represents its cultural side.” I am deeply grateful to the great departed, who tasked me with the honour of establishing the city choir, which would contribute to the enrichment of Palestinian people. Zayyad’s poetry sang for life; and we are honoured to reflect it in our name:

My people
My Ud Al Nad *
More precious than my soul
We will persevere

It was writer and stage director Riad Massarweh, who has greatly impacted theatre in our lands, who had chosen the name of our choir, “Ud Al Nad”.

* Ud Alnad is a type of plant whose stick evaporates with incense once burned.
