The idea of establishing the musical gardens as a project and a calling was adopted by Jamiyat Ud Al Nad Association through a professional vision presented by conductor and music therapist Katy Jarjoura. It was launched due to the significance of the question and its effect on our Arab schools which lack such gardens.
A musical garden is one where musical instruments are set up in open air and designed to match the different and changing states of the weather. They are also intended to suit all ages and groups.
The first musical garden was installed in the Holy Family School for Special Education in Nazareth, making musical instruments wheelchair-accessible, whereby students could enjoy the outdoors and use the instruments to fill the open air with their sounds.
In 2016, the second musical garden was installed for children who were forced to leave their homes along with their mothers in order to live in a safe space provided by the Women Against Violence Organisation. The goal is to enable the children to play those instruments, facilitating their expression of distressing emotions and painful memories, as the former provide much psychological relief. We hope to continue sowing musical gardens that nurture seeds of joy and pleasure in our children.
